Puck originally started as a university newspaper comic way back in the prehistoric days of 1998. It was reborn in 2011, and is now running weekly, in color. You can see the original run of eighty strips AND the new colour strips all here!
This strip is #2 in a series dating from my university days. Puck ran for three full years in the Silhouette, McMaster University’s student newspaper. Apparently I had a fan base, though I seldom heard from them or met them.
As you can see, the art here looks a little dated. Some of this stuff was shaded on a 486(!) with 8 megs of RAM. Yeah, I’m serious. A lot of the material predates this millennium, so you know we’re really going back a while.
I have to state that most of this artwork was generated at top speed, because my time was at a premium in those days. In retrospect, I should have chosen a simpler style, because my characters go (seriously) off-model all the time. Just looking at this particular strip makes me shudder. I just want to shout “Get a smaller forehead!”
The gag here was intended to become a recurring joke where Puck talked to her brain. I never actually revisited the concept after this.
