As a female, I am basically a mirror to Puck's impulse at the moment. Except I probably wouldn't stop with one punch.

I don't want to advocate too much, but pregnancy clothing is more of a niche market, and so not as open to scales of economy. On the other hand, new parents often in some trippy wonderland of swoonyness - so if they happen to have money, such businesses tend to like to lean on that. It's a bit like the funeral industry, that way.

I know, Puck could wear a mu mu!

@Riv: Most females who have seen this strip respond with an enthusiastic glee and express their desire to punch salespeople. Interestingly, it's mostly been males who have considered the salesgirl's plight and have noted the awfulness of dealing with customers.

@godmoderncommander: Nah. Not this time. She's just a tool for a higher evil, after all.

@darknoon: It is a niche market, and that could partly be to blame. Extortion could also partly be to blame. Mu mu is a ... no. Just a no. And if you check out the voting incentive, it's so hot you SHOULD get danger pay. But you won't. Because I'm poor.

Maternity Clothing....
My wife has noticed that maternity clothing is usually the least fashionable and ugliest clothing she has ever seen. Most of the maternity clothes here aren't that far removed from what your teen aged daughter would wear and look silly on a middle aged woman. So far she has only needed to buy 2 pairs of pants and 2 dresses. She has discovered that my t-shirts and football jerseys (mostly collegiate) more than roomy, comfortable to wear and saves the pocketbook. Maybe she'll start a new fashion trend in China.

@Caseyorourke: Your wife has observed a real truth. Maternity clothing is, for the most part, incredibly ugly. I cannot speak to Chinese maternity wear, but I can imagine.
